In July 2006, several men from Longview traveled to the Potter's House in Dallas, Texas to a monthly talk show-type forum entitled Man Talk hosted by the Potter's House men's ministry. They came back to Longview and hosted the first Man Talk on August 8, 2006.
At a time when men seem to have more to confront than ever, men are talking about their "real issues". With each generation, more and more men and boys are growing up without fathers and positive male influences in their lives. Many men have expressed the lack of confidence in being good fathers because they did not have fathers themselves, or good father figures to emulate.
In an effort to provide the support and answers that few men have had access to in recent decades, men are coming together locally to confront their issues, discuss them openly, and support each other. Men are no longer hiding and evading their real problems, concerns and feelings.
What is most dynamic about "Man Talk" is that it is proving to be life changing for men in every demographic area.
